“The Blue Jays,” said Boston executive Bill Lajoie, one of the gang of six in charge of the Red Sox this week at the winter meetings, replacing departed general manager Theo Epstein.
“When you look around baseball at the division winners and teams in post-season play, they all have a solid 1-2 starting combination and a closer; that’s what the Jays have now,” Lajoie said. “Think of it … one-quarter of their pitching staff is outstanding.”
Lajoie was including former Cy Young Award winner Roy Halladay to come up with that ratio.
“No one else in the division has a pitcher as good as a healthy Halladay and no one else has anyone as good as Burnett, for that matter,” Lajoie said.
